*AIDS/HIV BASIC (3 Hours) All employees must have a certificate verifying a basic AIDS/HIV course within 6 months of hire. This three-hour course meets this regulation. This is now a One (1)-time only course.
ABUSE, RESIDENT RIGHTS and SAFETY and EMERGENCIES are now available as separate and additional two (2) hours home study courses.
ALZHEIMER'S TRAINING LEVELS I & II (4 Hours each) any staff that have regular contact with or provide direct care to residents with Alzheimer's disease or related disorders, must do Level I within 3 months of hire. Those who provide direct care must have an additional 4 hours of training at Level II within 9 months of employment.
*ALZHEIMER'S REFRESHER COURSE In the following calendar years, the employee is required to do a four-hour refresher course every year. An approved Alzheimer's Trainer must teach all training courses with provider status regulated by Area on Aging.
ASSISTANCE WITH MEDICATIONS (6 Hours) All staff, including CNAs and Home Health Aides, who assist the residents with self-administration of their medications, must take this course prior to assuming this responsibility. An RN or a pharmacist must teach this course.
ASSISTANCE WITH MEDICATIONS UPDATE This annual two-hour medication update is required by the State of Florida.
CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation) All facilities must have a person who has a current CPR card in attendance in the facility at all times. This must be renewed every 2 years and taught by a certified instructor.
*DIRECT CARE STAFF TRAINING (2 Hours) (2-hour class, or 3-hour home study) This course is required of all direct care staff within 30 days of hire, and must cover the specific topics as outlined in the regulations. No update is required by the State of Florida at this time.
DIRECT CARE ADLS for Direct Care Staff TRAINING (3 Hours) for Staff who provide direct care to the residents, other than nurses, CNAs or Home Health Aides, must receive this course within 30 days of hire. It must cover assisting with certain aspects of the resident's ACTIVIES OF DAILY LIVING. No update is required by the State of Florida at this time.
*DNR for ALF Employees Available for all ALF employees and administrators/managers (2-hour home study).
*ELOPEMENT Available for all ALF employees and administrators/managers (2-hour home study).
FIRST AID All facilities must have a person who has a current FIRST AID card in attendance at all times. This must be renewed every 3 years, and taught by a certified instructor.
*INCIDENTS/ADVERSE INCIDENTS Available for all ALF employees and administrators/managers (2-hour home study).
*INFECTION CONTROL/PERSONAL HYGIENE (2-hour home study) Staff who provide direct care to the residents, other than nurses, CNAs or Home Health Aides, must receive this course within 30 days of hire. The course must include universal precautions and sanitation and be updated every Two (2) years.
NUTRITION/FOOD SAFETY Available for all ALF employees and administrators/managers (2-hour home study).
*CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR ADMINISTRATORS & MANAGERS (12 Hours every 2 years) All Administrators and managers must complete 12 hours of continuing education in any of the care topics identified in 400.454 FS or those related to assisted living.
* This course may be taken independently by the employee at the facility as a home study.
